Ten Questions with Johann the Dog

Johann1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
The Days of Johann - an agility dog, blogs about my life, my loves, my hurts, my interests, my cares, my funs,my worries, my friends and family, my website, and oh, yeah - ME!

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are
10% of our profits now go to dog rescue!

Giving back is a big part of my life.

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
A big part of what sets me apart is the fact that I’m a dog! But many of you may not know there are a lot of blogging dogs. What sets me apart besides my striking good looks (BOL!) and love of agility, is my desire to give back to my community. I’m a pretty lucky pup and many pups out there aren’t as lucky. We want to help them out however we can.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
My Mum and I started our blog a couple of months after she rescued me back in 2004. I was about five months old then. We started it as a diary of my life ’cause I’m her first dog EVER! And, of course, she is crazy about me and wanted to write down all the cool stuff that I did. She had never made a website, and wanted to experiment, so she used me as her muse. She started JohannTheDog.com as a fun site about me (including the blog) and my buds, then opened up the shopping part of the site about three months later!

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the Internet?
Hmmmm….I’d have to say that sometimes people don’t understand my point of view, or the fact that I’m a blogging dog. But since I’m a dog – I live in the moment and don’t let things get to me. I try to get my Mum to ‘let things roll’ too!

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
Bloglines. It helps me, easily and efficiently, keep in touch with my buds!

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Lassie. As a symbol of courage, faithfulness, and determination in front of hardship, Lassie is an icon. I’m sure she would have a lot about life to share with my readers. She was also one of the first celebrity dogs. I’d personally like to know what life lessons she could share, how she juggled all the aspects of her life and handled her celebrity.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
Huh? Well Dog? It’s made me think about my life in a whole new way. And what direction I’d like my life to take. I work to have a healthy, happy and fulfilling life. I’m not just a dog, but a living, breathing, loving member of the family; and very important in the life of my Mum and my brothers and sister, and my friends. Through blogging, I try to share that as much as possible with others and those less fortunate.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Be honest, be kind. Don’t worry about what others think. Share your life and hopefully people will gain something from what they read.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
My friend’s blog - TipTail.com. Their blog inspires me,makes me laugh, makes me happy and sad, teaches me and always leaves me wanting more. They are an inspiration and I love sharing my blogging life with them.

Show me how much you really love your blog

Hi gang! So I’ve been going through some of the answers submitted so far to our new Ten Questions feature and I gotta say I was a little underwhelmed. I’m not saying that to be a jerk. For anyone that knows me, they know I’m anything but that. :) What I was really hoping for though was for folks to take the questions Tish and I wrote and really run with them. Show us just how passionate you are about your blog and really sell it. BlogsWeLuv may not be the biggest and best outlet for you to let the world know about your blog, but it IS an outlet. Why not take every opportunity you get to tell people about your site to make your words really shine? If you haven’t read Barry’s answers yet to the ten questions you really should. He totally nailed it. Barry is Tish’s friend and someone I don’t know, but after reading his answers I thought to myself “this is a guy people would love to get to know”. There’s no mistaking how much blogging means to him. That’s what we really want to hear! Pour your heart into the questions and I can guarantee you’re going to grab someone’s attention out there. Don’t be shy! :)

10 Questions with Barry of Inn of the Last Home

Ten Questions with Barry of Inn of the Last Home

Inn of the Last Home1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
I feel I have a unique outlook on blogging that reflects my outlook on life - I have a number of interests I enjoy joining the internet community to comment on, such as science-fiction, television, sports and other subjects. My theatre and music jobs are a passion to me that I want to share with my friends and I have an eclectic writing style to which blogging provides an outlet. I feel there are a number of issues out there, political and otherwise, that are sometimes overlooked and I am able to bring a unique perspective to them - I’m someone who likes to fix problems and this is the best way I know how to address those types of issues, and sometimes there are just stories I hear about on the news I’m begging to get the blogging community’s perspective on. Finally I am so proud of my kids I can’t resist sharing them with the rest of the world.

2. Link us to one post that best defines who you are.
A Round Dog Day

This is the first of the “Conversations” posts I had with Tink/Gigglegirl - part of it was picked up by the Sentinel and printed in the paper. My relationship with my kids, especially Tink, is something I cover a lot in the blog.

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
I don’t attach myself so fully to one issue that all my posts relate back to it one way or another. So many bloggers can’t separate themselves from their political beliefs every post seems to have a hidden agenda. Plus I don’t try and relate every move I make during the day, which can sometimes be tedious. I hit the high points and comment on what passes through my brain.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I was a participant on the old k2k Knoxville discussion group in the old day when dinosaurs ruled the internet.. South Knox Bubba, as he was then called, was a heavy participant at the time that I enjoyed reading and discovered he’d created this new thing called a “blog”. I followed it and enjoyed it, then several other people started creating their own. I decided to start my own blog, named it after the Inn from the “Dragonlance” series of fantasy novels, and settled in for the long haul. My first post was on January 9, 2003.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
Whatever it is about the anonymity of the internet that allows people to believe they have the right to denigrate others’ ideas and personal life. Every blog out there is at risk from trolls and flamers that enjoy nothing more than putting down the ideas they don’t agree with and personally attacking the ones who created them. If you met in real life, etiquette would never allow near the kind of bravado that some people thrive on with blogs and other internet sources. What’s interesting is face-to-face discussion, when it’s open-minded and doesn’t degenerate into emotional displays, is much more effective in actually solving problems or debating points that any blogs. Blogs are great for gathering facts and putting out ideas but for real change it has to be done outside the internet world. A lot of bloggers have abandoned that pretext and only hide behind their online identities.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
I now love Bloglines, the RSS Feed reader. I keep up with every site I monitor very easily - plus I can save posts I want to read later, or return to for more information later.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
I wouldn’t want anyone doing a guest post for me - the Inn is my site, and it’s my identity. I can’t figure out why bloggers line up “guest bloggers” when they go on vacation - I guess to them their site has taken on such a life of its own independent of the blogger themselves that it can’t survive their absence. That’s a little odd, to me, because I don’t want anyone speaking with my voice that’s not me. When I go out of town on vacation I hang a “GONE FISHIN’” sign on the blog and pick back up when I come back. I wouldn’t have a guest blogger take over anymore than I’d invite someone to take over my job or my home duties and pretend they’re me for a week while I’m gone…

That said, if I could actually interview someone for a post, I would want to interview George Bush and Al Gore together, to get their personal views on the war, other domestic agenda and today’s political process. If I had actual access to them without handlers and PR flacks, it would be really interesting.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
It’s helped me organize my thoughts, and make sure I understand what I believe before putting them down on paper/the PC. I also have become more politically aware and more interested in the way things work around me. I’ve learned about other points of view, especially other religions and philosophical interests. I’ve also learned a lot about how people in other parts of the country and the world think and live their lives - and how interesting it is that most folks aren’t all that different than me. Everybody has the ability to communicate with everyone else, and that’s a wonderful thing.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
The #1 tip is don’t take yourself too seriously. Everyone has a unique perspective, but you do not have the only - or necessarily the correct - perspective. Don’t go into your blog assuming you’re right and everyone else is wrong, even about a single issue. Leave that for the radio talk show hosts - they do that for a living. Use the medium you’ve been given as an opportunity to make friends, get to know people of all kinds of backgrounds, engage in a community and find where you fit in. Don’t be afraid to be controversial or write about things you feel strongly about even though others may disagree. But be open to discussion, have a thick skin when criticism comes your way and be gracious when people agree with you. If you become popular, don’t encourage sycophancy. Don’t let others fight your battles for you. Defend yourself when necessary. Don’t become enamored with your own success, especially if it’s mainstream success. Don’t forget the community that helped you find success. And don’t sell out to a high bidder - be true to yourself and your beliefs. Remain genuine, and open at all times.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
My best friend is Big Orange Michael. I am happy to read his site - not necessarily because it contains scintillating prose (it does), insightful UT Sports commentary (it does), in depth analysis of TV shows that I like (it does) and a healthy does of happy uncle-ness (it does)….. but I just enjoy seeing my friend on a daily basis, even if it’s just virtually. We’re still part of each others’ lives, and he’s still my kids’ Uncle Mike.

The Ten Questions revealed

Tish and I spent the last couple days yapping back and forth about how we should do the ten questions feature, what the questions should be, etc. In the end we came up with ten questions that we’ll ask of everyone. We decided to do it this way rather than having to come up with ten unique questions for every blogger who participates just to make things a little easier, especially during the Blogathon when we simply won’t have enough time to constantly brainstorm new questions. So enough of my yapping. Here’s the ten questions.

  • Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
  • Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
  • What sets you apart from other bloggers?
  • When and how did you first discover blogging?
  • What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
  • Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
  • If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
  • How has blogging made you a better person?
  • What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
  • Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?

For everyone who’s already agreed to participate and anyone else who would like to, please send along your answers to us via the contact form. Please DO NOT leave your answers in a comment, as we’ll be making a post for each blogger separately which will include their Ten Question answers. If you’d like to also include a photo of yourself or some sort of graphic you’re more than welcome to. You may send that along to us at contact AT blogsweluv DOT com. Thanks everyone :)

UPDATE: Please check out my post “Show me how much you really love your blog” before submitting your answers. It may help inspire you to write even better answers. I hope! :)

Calling all bloggers!

One feature that Tish and I have yet to unveil here at BlogsWeLuv is one called “Ten Questions”. This will be an opportunity for all bloggers to have a small feature of sorts via a short ten question survey. Bloggers will have ten totally random questions to answer and will also have a link provided back to their site. If you’re interested in participating in our Ten Questions feature please leave a comment and let us know! The more the merrier. This is a great way to get your sites a little more attention and perhaps even reviewed if we really love what we see :)

Rescue Me - A blog we luv

Rescue Me

If you’ve ever read my personal blog, you know how much I love dogs. Imagine my surprise when Johann the Dog left a comment here yesterday. A blogging dog definitely deserves a little attention, so I went to check out his digs.

Johann was rescued in 2004 from Southside Animal Shelter in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has a loving mom, two brothers, and a sister. He has been competing in agility competitions since June 2005 and has been blogging since November 2006. He makes all the other dogs feel like underachievers! And now, Johann has taken on yet another project. He has a brand new blog called Rescue Me. Through this site, he plans to help other dogs find the loving homes they deserve.

bingo.jpgRescue Me features a dog in need each day. The dogs are from various no-kill shelters and rescues from around the country. There have been four dogs showcased so far. Their profiles include photos as well as detailed information about their histories, likes and dislikes, and the types of parents they are hoping to find. You can’t help but fall in love with these pups as you read their stories. Rescue Me also proudly displays a blogroll full of breed rescue organizations that are always in need of loving homes for loving dogs.

Please take a moment to stop by Rescue Me. You just may find a special dog to share your life with. And if you know of other dogs that are in need of forever homes, leave a comment for Johann. He is so thankful to have found such a loving family that he has made it his life’s mission to help as many other dogs as possible. God bless you, Johann!

Emila Yusof’s Illustrated Blog - A blog we luv

Emila Yusof

Being someone who has grown up drawing and has been interested in most forms of art my entire life, it was easy to fall in love with the work of Emila Yusof. Emila is a graphic designer and illustrator living in Malaysia and believe it or not she is self-taught. When you find an artist that displays the kind of skill and creativity which Emila does, it’s quite obvious they were born with a very special gift. Quite simply her work is extraordinary and deserves your attention.

NeighborsAfter you spend a little time browsing through Emila’s portfolio you’ll instantly notice she has developed a very distinct style. It wouldn’t be hard to spot her work even if it were hanging in a museum, labeled anonymously. Though all of her forms of work are wonderful I’ll have to admit I find myself particularly attracted to her character illustrations, like the one on the right. You might recognize Marzie from Tish’s previous review. They have a cute, playful and cartoon style which appeals to me, being a cartoonist.

Win this bag at Emila’s site! When Emila is not applying pen to paper or brush to canvas, she also creates an assortment of handmade crafts, all of which bear her very unique style. In fact this month Emila is hosting a contest where one lucky person will win a handmade tote bag, featuring the image of an adorable little kitten. Simply stop by her website, leave a comment and you’re entered to win!

I could certainly go on forever writing about Emila’s amazing talents, but to fully appreciate them you have to see for yourself. Why not spare a few moments and drop by Emila’s site today? You’ll thank me for it.

Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery - A blog we luv

Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery

When Mike suggested that I check out Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery, he certainly didn’t have to twist my arm! I am quite the girly girl. I like to look and smell nice. Rarely a day goes by that I don’t spritz on some perfume right before going out the door and starting my day. I was excited to hear about a blog that was entirely about perfumes!

Gallery Shot 1Mariuca is a lovely lady from Malaysia with a very unique pastime. She collects perfume miniatures, displaying them beautifully in cases that rival those you’ll see in high-end department stores. Her mission is to have as many perfumes as possible surrounding her at all times. She wants to see, touch, and smell them.

When I first visited Mariuca’s blog, I was so impressed that I read every post. The blog is fairly new, dating back to onlyGallery Shot 2 November 2006, but it isn’t often that I’m compelled to read every post in a blog’s archives. The majority of Mariuca’s posts profile specific perfumes from her collection. Even if you’ve never encountered these perfumes, you’ll walk away somehow knowing exactly how they smell. You’ll understand when and how they should be worn. And you’ll be oh so tempted to take a little trip to your local department store and add a perfume to your own collection.

I didn’t see my favorite perfume, Happy by Clinique, highlighted on Mariuca’s blog, but I am hopeful that it soon will be. Other favorites of mine include Pink by Victoria’s Secret and Wink by Avon.

Does perfume make you smile? Does it evoke a sense of beauty and happiness when you spray it? Can it turn an average day into a wonderful one? Yes? Well, head on over to Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery and choose your next scent.
