10 Questions with The Vegas Art Guy of The Desert Glows Green

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
My blog covers just about everything, including religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin. During the school year it’s mostly about education and my adventures in the classroom. When school is not in session, it’s open season.

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
There were several, but this one is a good one: Good News for a Change

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
Why, me of course. :) That and I don’t stick to just one subject, and I’ll admit my faults and successes.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I kept hearing about blogs and how cool they were. I poked around and started to read a few that I liked and decided to give it a try.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
All the cursing, and working really hard on a post and not getting any response, then mailing one in and you get huge discussions, go figure.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
I love Haloscan, it makes managing my comments way easy. It’s way better than the comment system Blogger uses.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Ronald Reagan. I’m a big fan of his and he wrote and spoke so plainly and yet so eloquently.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
It’s made me write more clearly and has made me a better communicator. It’s also forced me to think more critically than I used to in the past.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Be honest, especially if you screw up. Return comments and visits from other blogs. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure if you do politics to do some research before you just spout off your opinion. In addition you should put up an entry every couple of days or so, that way your readers will keep coming back and please have fun!

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Just one? That’s not fair! :( OK I read American Power every day. Dr. Douglass’ posts on the political scene are always interesting and I always learn something new when I visit his site. OK I’m addicted to his blog… lol

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
My blog is rants and raves of my everyday life. There’s no real objective or reasoning behind it other than me describing how I feel at the moment, my likes and dislikes, and my opinions of how life should be in light of the post-apocalyptic release of Mr. Bean’s Holiday.

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
I Have Been Thinking

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
My lack of concern or me being naive to the world sets me apart.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I jumped in cold turkey. Last month, a few weeks before my birthday, I was thinking of my pending anniversary of my birth. Getting older is thought provoking. So, I thought I’d start a blog as means to express a variety of thoughts and ideas. Never reading a blog before, I thought I’d give it a try.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
Time, or lack of it is my biggest pet peeve.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
The less I have, the better I have it.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
I have always admired Abe Lincoln. I am interested in the civil war era.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
It has helped me articulate what I want to say.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
I believe to be a better writer, read. To be a better a better blogger, read a blog. Not so much to imitate what others are writing, but to help develop your own mind.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Honestly, I haven’t read any blog on a regular basis. I have viewed a few, but nothing has caught my eye, snagged my heart or smacked me on the arse yet. The Kat House is the one I have visited most.

Ten Questions with Hopeful Spirit of On the Horizon

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
On the Horizon is an interactive exploration of what it means to be a faithful, Spirit-led person in the twenty-first century outside the confines of the patriarchal, institutional church. Having spent my entire life as an active participant in organized religion, I broke free and am striving to gain a deeper understanding of the Gospels and closer relationship with the Divine Creator.

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
Thursday Thirteen #9: Eight Thirteen Things About Me

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
Radical inclusiveness is the rule at “On the Horizon”. EVERYONE is welcome and ALL viewpoints can be safely expressed. I am open to new ideas, new ways of understanding belief and faith, and am unconstrained by traditional interpretations of Scripture or ways of worshiping.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I just began blogging in January 2007, although I’ve been aware of the phenomenon for a few years through friends who have been blogging a lot longer.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
The competition to be the most popular, the most visited, the one with the most comments…it reminds me of high school cliques and popularity contests.

I’m just interested in researching and writing valuable articles and learning
not only from that exercise, but also my fellow bloggers. There are many
talented writers with intriguing insights on the ‘Net.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
WordPress. I recently switched from Blogger and I don’t know what took me so long because the software and all that goes with it is FAR superior to Blogger.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
The Rev. Billy Graham. I think he is not just brilliant, but an outstanding role model of faith, dedication and humility!

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
I’m more introspective and reflective about my own life and beliefs, as well as others’. The best, i.e., healthiest, thing I ever did in my entire life was walk out the door of that church and never look back. The second best was beginning to blog.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Forget about competing, as discussed above. Focus on reading, thinking about what you read and writing with authority and authenticity.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Writing in Faith by Sandy Carlson. Sandy is an extremely talented, thoughtful writer with a unique perspective and voice. I am always spellbound by her articles.
