10 Questions with Paul of Museum of Pop Archaeology

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
Museum of Pop Archaeology is an online museum/informational source about the history of pop music. Each exhibit examines a facet or historical segment of popular music, supported with ample documentation, authentic pictures, and a suspiciously ample supply of transcribed private conversations. We also have a Facebook group with officers who are all charged with administrative duties and some sort of food preparation. (P.S. It’s satire. Don’t tell anyone. Satire does not sell, and we need the bucks.)

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
I will go with Exhibit 15: Meeting the Devil at the Crossroads.

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
I tend to wheeze a bit, especially during strenuous activity.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
About 2001, when I ill-advisedly started keeping a ”diary” on a community Scoop site. Back then it was an acceptable substitute for being a sensitive singer/songwriter. Meaning I could unleash all my pain and internal torment in exact and often embarrassing fashion. That led to a record review blog. Finally I started the Museum because I really got sick of telling the truth about everything.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
Work blogs. I can’t stand blogs about work.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
Wikipedia. Lying takes a whole lot of research. And Wikipedia’s the most cursory, drive-thru source of information I’ve ever seen.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Steve Martin, because he’d fit the format. Hell, I’ve practically stolen his point of view for the whole thing. Also Henry Miller, if he’s interested.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
It’s lessened the need for psychoactive medication.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Don’t be afraid to edit. Measure the tempo and pacing of your words. Inserting a good joke is always worth it. And don’t feel compelled to write about Britney Spears. That angle is covered.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
WFMU’s Beware Of The Blog – It’s conceivable that this blog could be solely responsible for all your entertainment needs except for sexual congress. And even then, if you were physically talented, it might still work for that too.

Most bloggers just write their posts. I doodle mine!

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
Last year.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
Takes up a lot of my time, but it’s a labor of love so I don’t really mind.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
Live Traffic Feed. I can’t believe so many people from around the world are clicking and checking out my doodles. It blows my mind.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Joan Collins. I’d love to hear her scathing views on today’s screwed up celebrities.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
I started blogging to get in the habit of drawing for fun everyday. I’ve had so much fun connecting with people around the world who dig my doodles.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Don’t second guess too much. Go with your gut. Sometimes you do something offensive, but it’s how you get better at what you do. Don’t forget to get away from the computer once in a while.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Dlisted. Funniest guy on the web, besides me of course.

Are you one of those people that feels like movies, music, television and everything else in between are just not as cool as they used to be? Do you find yourself secretly painting your face, slipping on high rise boots and belting out your favorite Kiss tunes in front of the mirror? If so The RollerBlog, a site which celebrates the seventies, is the perfect addition to your list of daily reads.

In the words of Katy, the blog’s author, “The RollerBlog chronicles my journey into the decade of my birth, in which I discover movies, music, television, books, and more. Not to mention Wonder Woman, moustaches, the Heat Miser, feathered hair, and the occasional wookie.”

Featured on the RollerBlog are many different categories all spilling over with content paying homage to the seventies. I particularly enjoyed visiting the 1974 category, the year I was born, to see what kind of goodies Katy writes about. I was pretty delighted to find a post about the great old Christmas specials which air every year on television, particularly The Year Without a Santa Clause which was made in 1974. Cool! Of course I was just an infant when this classic was released, but I certainly remember watching it when I was little older. Good stuff.

Fast forward a few years and we find Katy writing about perhaps one of the cooler and certainly classic television shows born in the seventies, Doctor Who. What blog which focuses on the 1970s would be complete without Doctor Who? Katy seemingly leaves no stone unturned in her quest to celebrate the decade in which she was also born.

If you’re a child of the seventies or just have a love for the era, you can’t go wrong with The Rollerblog. Stop by today, grab the feed, kick back and let Katy take you for a trip down memory lane!

Ten Questions with Michael Latshaw of Henson’s Hell.

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
“Henson’s Hell” is a humorous blog covering a variety of topics, mostly centering around pop culture. The blog is written by Henson Ray, the main character in the online comic-mystery “It Happened in Plainfield.” (A new chapter has been released every week since April; the final chapter being released on Monday, December 31st.) The blog is a spin-off of the story, allowing Henson’s character and humor to live on after the final chapter is released.

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
The strange facial contortions of Celine Dion.

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
“Henson’s Hell” is unique because it brings a fictional character to life, giving him the opportunity to socialize and interact in the real world. In the online story “It Happened in Plainfield,” Henson has his own blog called “Henson’s Hell.” In fact, his blog is one of the main reasons he gets tangled up in the weird celebrity mystery in the first place. So it seemed only appropriate to bring the blog to life. It also serves as ongoing publicity for the story, as well as a way to placate fans who didn’t want the story to end.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I’ve known about blogging for years. But I guess I really didn’t get interested until I was looking for ways to promote “It Happened in Plainfield.” That’s when I really started reading other people’s blogs and learning a lot of useful information.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
I don’t really have many peeves. Not yet, anyway. Except maybe how to find readers. That’s always a constant struggle, I guess. I’m not really in it to make money, but that would certainly be nice as well.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
I like the Blog Catalog widget because it shows me who has visited my site, and then I can go visit them as well. It’s a nice way to get to know the blogging community. I’ve found a lot of great websites that way.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
I think I would like Noel Coward. He was always so witty and clever. And blogging would be a great outlet for his talents. He could do his social commentary on a regular basis, and entertain us with his witty observations. Maybe even write a song lyric or two.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
It’s gotten me to look at the world around me with new eyes. And of course, it disciplines me to keep writing. I get to explore topics I might never have written about before, because I don’t have to write a whole story around something. I can just write a few paragraphs.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Don’t get so focused on your blog that you can’t appreciate other people’s blogs as well. Blogging is about community and bringing together ideas. But if your ideas are the only ones you’re interested in, then it’s going to be very hard to establish a loyal readership.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Catontape.com – Well, this blog isn’t really one to read, but I definitely visit it a lot whenever I need a laugh. I admit it, it’s a pretty sad indulgence.
