The Blog – The Wooden Fish is an attractive looking blog featuring tech related articles, movie reviews, Wordpress discussion and even some great looking original desktop wallpapers for download.

The Blogger – Originally from China, George Yang now resides in San Diego and considers himself an elementary web designer, though it would be difficult to agree with that just by observing the work he’s done with his own site. George is fluent in Chinese, Spanish and English.

A Post We Luv – George writes a short but sweet review of Juno, a movie which I absolutely adored.

I think it’s safe to say when we were all much younger there was always that one movie or book that really scared the snot out of us. For me a couple movies that immediately come to mind are The Twilight Zone and Creepshow. I watched both of those alone when I was just a kid and to this day I still think they’re two of the creepiest flicks I’ve ever watched. In fact I still refuse to eat Corn Flakes. If you’ve seen Creepshow, you know why.

It’s fun however to go back and revisit those things that scared us years later. The folks at Kindertrauma do just that. According to their about page, “Kindertauma is about the movies, books, and toys that scared you when you were a kid. It’s also about kids in scary movies, both as heroes and villains. And everything else that’s traumatic to a tyke!” What a fun concept for a blog!

While spending a little time flipping through the Kindertauma archives, it didn’t take me long to find a post about yet another movie that creeped me out as a kid. I’m sure most people reading this will remember Poltergeist. Uncle Lancifer writes, “Don’t let the name Steven Spielberg or the PG rating fool you, this film has caused countless sleepless nights and it’s done so for decades.” No truer words have been spoken.

If there’s been a particular movie, tv show or book that has left you scarred for life, Kindertauma wants to hear about it! With KinderTrauma’s TraumaFessions feature, readers have the opportunity to chime in and submit their scary childhood confessions. For example, a reader by the name of Eric writes about the Beautiful Day Monster, which you’ve probably heard of if you’ve watched the Muppets. Thinking back on it now, I guess he was kind of creepy.

In a nutshell, Kindertrauma is like a trip down creepy memory lane and more than worthy of being an addition to your list of daily blog reads. It was a lot of fun looking back on all those movies that gave me nightmares as a kid. Hopefully I won’t have any nightmares this time around.

If you’re a fan of such films as Big Fish or The Corpse Bride, you may have noticed the name John August in the credits. John is the writer responsible for the fantastic screenplays of those two films as well as many others. Recently he also directed The Nines, featuring Ryan Reynolds which has received great reviews thus far. Amazingly John also has time to write regularly on JohnAugust.com, a personal blog featuring as you might expect, a lot of very useful information for budding screenwriters.

Why does this blog interest me so much?
I’ve been writing/re-writing a screenplay with a cousin of mine over the last couple years. Because of this I spend a lot of time researching screenwriting, looking for ways to improve, things I shouldn’t do, things I should do and so on. When I recently stumbled onto John’s blog, the first post I read talked about how to properly introduce characters into your script. I found it to be immensely useful and ever since reading that article, I’ve had JohnAugust.com in my list of daily reads.

What if I’m not a screenwriter?
That’s quite alright! There’s plenty to read on John’s blog for the casual reader as well. John writes about projects he’s currently working on, answers reader’s questions and even writes about what he learned from playing the game World of Warcraft. Though he’s given up the game (with some regrets) you might be surprised to learn there was a period of time in his life where he was rather addicted to it. I found it interesting to learn that even though John has certainly reached a level of celebrity, he’s still a guy who likes to play video games. Perhaps that’s what makes his blog so endearing. Despite that level of celebrity status, he’s still a guy you can relate to.

To help you get started with John’s blog, here’s a few posts I found interesting.

Seven things I learned from World of Warcraft – As I mentioned previously, John writers about his experiences with WoW. After finally giving up World of Warcraft, John wrote a couple movies, directed another and even had a kid! I’d have to say the decision was probably a wise one to part ways with the game.

Does anyone actually use long division? – As someone who loathes math, this post really cracked me up. If it were possible to live without math, I’d be all for it. So how often do you use it?

How I got my agent – John talks about the consequences which led him to hiring an agent. He also briefly discusses the misconception that you absolutely need an agent.

Whether you’re an aspiring writer looking for tips from an accomplished veteran or simply think you may enjoy a glimpse into the life of someone working in the film industry, JohnAugust.com is a blog that will satisfy.

There’s no denying the fact that I’m a movie fanatic. I have a DVD collection rapidly approaching 250 and I’ve probably borrowed another hundred from a cousin of mine who has about five times as many as I do. Perhaps he should be writing this review, eh?

I enjoy most film genres and I’ve discovered over the last couple years thanks to sites like IMDB.com that I really enjoy reading about and keeping up with the latest movie news. Beyond the big sites like IMDB, there are a lot of blogs offering great content as well. One such blog is Snarkerati’s At The Movies. With a layout that’s easy on the eyes and content that’s updated regularly, the blog is definitely worth an addition to your list of daily reads.

At the Movies appears to be a reasonably new blog, but there’s already plenty of great articles. Aside from movie news, some of the categories they cover include festival news, movie posters and even movie technology. As I do with nearly every review, I’d like to highlight some of the posts on At the Movies which stood out to me.

Top 70 Vampire Movies of All Time – I love a good vampire movie. As you can probably guess, this list features some of the very best throughout the years. I was surprised at how many I’d actually seen.

Halo Film Appears to be Dead – Millions upon millions of rabid fans of the Halo video game trilogy’s collective hearts will quite possibly sink after getting wind of this. It’s hard to imagine this project being dead forever though. It would almost certainly make a rather considerable amount of money at the box office.

Top 50 Dystopian Movies of All Time – If you love movies that paint a grim picture of the future, this list is for you. There’s some truly great films here. Many I’ve seen and many I’m now considering adding to my Netflix queue.

If you love movies as much as I do, you should consider stopping by At the Movies and making it one of your regular reads. You might also enjoy Snarkerati’s other two blogs, Addicted to TV and Celebrity Gossip.
