Kindertrauma – A blog we luv

It’s fun however to go back and revisit those things that scared us years later. The folks at Kindertrauma do just that. According to their about page, “Kindertauma is about the movies, books, and toys that scared you when you were a kid. It’s also about kids in scary movies, both as heroes and villains. And everything else that’s traumatic to a tyke!” What a fun concept for a blog!
While spending a little time flipping through the Kindertauma archives, it didn’t take me long to find a post about yet another movie that creeped me out as a kid. I’m sure most people reading this will remember Poltergeist. Uncle Lancifer writes, “Don’t let the name Steven Spielberg or the PG rating fool you, this film has caused countless sleepless nights and it’s done so for decades.” No truer words have been spoken.
If there’s been a particular movie, tv show or book that has left you scarred for life, Kindertauma wants to hear about it! With KinderTrauma’s TraumaFessions feature, readers have the opportunity to chime in and submit their scary childhood confessions. For example, a reader by the name of Eric writes about the Beautiful Day Monster, which you’ve probably heard of if you’ve watched the Muppets. Thinking back on it now, I guess he was kind of creepy.

Like it!
Great review, Mike!
Poltergeist has always creeped me out. I watched it again a few months ago, and it had the same effect as when I was younger. Great movie!
The TV show that most creeped me out was Tales from the Darkside! Not sure if I’d still be as scared to watch it, but that show traumatized me as a kid!
What a cool idea for a blog! We had this local TV show when I was a kid called Mr. Peppermint. He was this nice guy who dressed up in a red and white striped suit and had a walking cane (not that he needed it) and one of those flat-top straw hats.
Anywho…he had this coloring book that illustrated his adventures. There was this one page that had the scariest looking full-page cobra on it. It scared the Bejeezus out of me every time. I always skipped that page lest it jumped out at me and sucking my face whole. I remember trying to practice being “tough” by making myself stare at it and not be scared.
Never worked.
Gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it again. :)
@Tish: Thank you :) Poltergeist doesn’t creep me out quite as much now, but I think that’s probably because I’ve seen it so many times ;P
@Mark: Mr. Peppermint sounds more creepy to me than the cobra :P
Trilogy of Terror; it was a Karen Black movie.. the african doll that came to life was really spooky! Worse when you are vacationing in Cali and end up at Universal Studios where they have huge posters of the creepy devil!
Back in the day we had Edmus Scary;”Don’t go to bedmus until you stayed up with Edmus”. He was like Elvira Mistress of the Dark with the weekly Friday night fight movies. He was not so scary as he was creepy. Later they found out he was a pedophile! YUCKY!
