Ten Questions with Steve of My Pointless1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
I think that the title of my blog (my pointless) describes it pretty well. My blog has no social, political, commercial or religious agenda. On the other hand, it does have a purpose: I post a couple items a day to make a person smile, laugh, groan or just be a bit amused.

2.Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
That is hard. I can’t say that I have one, especially since I have different sorts of posts. I know you asked for one… but let me give you three that I think give the flavor of my site:

A recent weird news post: the perfect disguise: drywall compound

One of my favorite video posts: The New Year’s Revolution Song

One of my favorite clipping posts: One of my favorites

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
Probably nothing. The blogging community is so diverse that we are pretty much all unique. I don’t think that I can claim that anything makes me “stand out” among a group of unique people.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I discovered it a few years ago when some of the people from our church went on a missions trip to Kentucky to help with a camp for kids. The following year, we took a trip to Pass Christian, MS to help with Katrina relief. On both trips, I wanted to keep people back home informed on our progress, so I learned about blogging and posted a daily blog. I thought it was an interesting addition to our trip.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
Blogs with little decent content and lots of advertisements.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
I have to say that for me, it is Google Reader and the widget that allows you to share what you read. You will see that widget on my blog. However, for me it has additional value. First, it is the way that I keep up with a couple dozen weird-news/video sites. It is also the first way I keep up with the blogs I am most interested in.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Well, as a pastor, the right answer would have to be Jesus. :) That having been said, in keeping with the whole “my pointless” theme, my guest post would be written by Jerry Seinfeld, Brian Regan or Jim Gaffigan.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
On a personal level, it has put me in touch with some really nice people. I think interacting with people in different locations with different points-of-view is always healthy. On an mental level, although my posts are “pointless” they do involve some research. I sort through probably 50+ articles/clips a day to find something that I want to post. So, the process makes me read new things and find things that I would have missed.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Work at it. Grow with it. Have fun with it. Do it. A good blog, in my opinion, is a developing process that requires some effort and consistency. It is fun… but it ain’t easy.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
There are a handful that I appreciate and read regularly. One of my favorites is “Not always right” because I find it genuinely funny. It is a blog of interactions between retailers and clueless customers.
