Being someone who is into art and all things creative, I always enjoy when I find a blog authored by a really exceptional artist. Such is the case with DaniDraws.com. Dani Jones is a professional illustrator and while not working on projects for clients, she finds time to author not only some fantastic tutorials, but also very well written editorials pertaining to the field of illustration. I think just about anyone regardless of their level of knowledge in art and illustration can and more than likely will find useful information at DaniDraws.com.

If you’re someone who may be looking to improve your skills as an artist, there are plenty of articles from which to choose and soak in valuable knowledge. For example with The Three Roles of Sketching, Dani discusses how she spends her time when sketching and what her process consists of. The result is a great guideline suggesting how you can learn new techniques, try new ideas and of course have fun as well.

Here are just a few other great articles by Dani to help you improve your skills as an artist.

How to paint faster – The quicker you finish a project, the sooner you can move on to the next!

Creating watercolor paintings in Photoshop – If you’ve wondered just how you can get that unique watercolor look with your artwork in Photoshop, this is the tutorial you’ve been looking for.

The Complete Digital Comic – Part 1 in a series in which Dani teaches techniques for creating comic book art digitally using Photoshop and Illustrator.

As I mentioned, Dani also writes some fantastic editorials. For example, one that I found particularly well written is Spec Work and the Pixish Debate, in which Dani discusses the newly created website Pixish.com and how it’s not very beneficial to artists and illustrators. I think this a great read, especially for up and coming artists.

There’s a whole lot more to discover on DaniDraws.com and if I were to sit here and write about it all, I’d probably have to write this review as a series. Instead I suggest you stop by Dani’s site and see for yourself just what you’ve been missing! While you’re at it, you should also consider stopping by Dani’s sketch blog to check out some of her fantastic artwork.

  1. Thanks for a most flattering and well-written review! I am stunned…

  2. You’re welcome! Glad ya appreciated it :)

  3. Thanks for the tip on a great blog. I work at a place with a lot of children’s books and find myself drawn (no pun intended) to the art in the books. Ever since seeing Where The Wild Things Are as a child, I’ve been fascinated with children’s book art.
