What’s Cooking??? - A Blog We Luv

empanadas.jpg

The other day, my mother gave me a little hand-tool to make empanadas. I’d never heard of them let alone made them before so I thought I’d look them up and see what I was in for. Turns out, they are (typically a Mexican dish) lovely little pastries filled with any assortment of delectable things (sweet OR savory).

In doing my research for various recipes, I came across What’s Cooking, hosted by Ben, whose family has owned a restaurant in Mexico City for the past 40 years. Ben’s blog, What’s Cooking, specializes primarily in food from a Mexican origin although he’ll deviate from time to time with other favorites (Cupcakes gone Wild).

The recipe I found was, of course, an empanada recipe (see pic – they look fantastic!) and is one I am definitely going to try! Get the recipe here.

Ben’s blog has a lot of information on it! I found the layout pleasing and interesting and I’d have to say my only criticism is that the further I scrolled down, the more confused I became. There are a lot of advertisements, and while there’s really nothing wrong with that, it became difficult to ascertain whether the links were to his own posts/recipes or to others and I had to pay close attention to what I was looking at (lol, which I suppose isn’t a bad thing either considering all). However, it just goes to show that Ben has a lot to offer and wants to share it with all of us!

Ben is a busy blogger, having 2 blogs to keep up on, What’s Cooking and Arimou’s World, his personal blog. He is also a Tupperware Consultant which I imagine keeps him hopping.

So, if you’re a foodie, or even if you’re not – drop by and visit Ben and check out his recipes. I’m sure you’ll find something to whet your appetite!

Good work Ben. Keep all the Mexican fare coming! I’m going to be trying several of your authentic recipes!

  1. Great first review, Amy! I love Mexican food, so I will definitely check this blog out. :)

  2. Well thank you very much for the nice review, Amy. I love food and with my blog I want to share that love and some of the many amazing recipes my parents made in that restaurant back in Mexico.
The layout of the blog can be confusing at first, but I think after the second visit you get it. My recipes are on top, the advertisements on the sidebar and everything else, recipes from other great bloggers, kitchen tips, books related to food and other thoughts (hence the title thoughts and recipes from an kitchen adventurer)are below. It seems like too much, but it really isn’t. I guess it’s just my own compulsion of trying to keep everything organize. Thanks a lot again :D

  3. Congratulations, Amy. No, not on joining the BWL crew (though yeah, congrats on that too), but on officially making me crazy hungry with this post! Those do look amazing. And I’m a big fan of Mexican food too.

Great first review and looking forward to many more!

  4. I’ll be a regular visitor here. Great site for me. I will try that empanada recipe also. :D
