Ten Questions with Katy of I’m Blogging That

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
I’m Blogging That covers the latest and hottest topics around the net. I also enjoy giving my own personal spin on those topics, writing how-to tips for better blogging, as well as helping those new to blogging gain better exposure and boost their writing potential.

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
My post, Fame or Money best describes the biggest turning point for me in blogging and gives a real sense of who I am.

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
I believe I’m different from others in that I make everything very personal. It’s a challenge at times to explain how each post is personal to me but in between the lines of my tips and tricks and covering hot topics there is a fine line of me. From a sometimes serious personality to expressing my own ups and downs to get something to work for me.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
Many, many moons ago I signed up with LiveJournal at the request of a friend. It was my first blog that was quickly abandoned due to my inability to actually share something about myself. At the time I had no idea what niche blogging was, that others were picking up their own blogs, or that it could actually be something. The next time I started blogging was with I’m Blogging That to release the intense emotions I was feeling while my partner and I were adopting our daughter.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
AdSense. I know it’s important for a lot of people and I strongly encourage bloggers to go about making money in as many ethical ways as they can. However, poor placement of AdSense blocks quickly turns me off from the content. I wish more and more that bloggers would find a way to make a good presence of themselves with their content first and then their ad blocks, no matter what service they’re using.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
There are so many wonderful plugins, widgets, and services that are must-haves. So with the choices so difficult, I’m going to have to go with StumbleUpon. I cannot believe how many absolutely wonderful blogs I have found using StumbleUpon and the drive of traffic to I’m Blogging That with this site has also gone above and beyond any expectations. I’m not sure a day goes by that I do not check in with the site to check out some hot topics and get some new tips and tricks.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Oh, hands down, Ted Murphy, CEO of Izea. Wow, his accomplishments are amazing and he is absolutely increasing in popularity even if you simply love to hate him (or his companies). He’s got ideas that are absolutely inspiring and he can put a great spin on every aspect of the Internet to revive something that is long dead or build up something brand new. Beyond being a spectacular sales man, he’s insightful. After meeting him at BlogWorldExpo/PostieCon, I also know that he’s real. There are no “big head, I’m better than you” presence with him and I greatly admire that!

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
Honestly, I must less of a snob now. Blogging and reading the blogs of others has vastly improved my range of scope in every day life and how I function online. Meeting others and talking to them about blogging brought me from my sometimes perceived snobbish ways of not speaking to many but certainly handing out advice on my own blog. In short, it’s made me a better and more effective communicator with those on and off line.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Network, Network, Network. You simply cannot say it enough. Discover social networking sites, join conversations where you can add value, and create your know-how in whatever niche your in by networking. Meet people that blog in your niche as well as those who do not. There are so many people blogging and building websites out there that have something to share, great people to learn from. Discover and enjoy!

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Daniel from Daily Blog Tips is a fantastic blogger. His ideas are innovative and unique. Unlike some “blogging tips” bloggers I have found, he doesn’t just regurgitate old news. There’s a lot to learn from Daniel and his blog is a must read (daily).
