Self Portrait Challenge – A Blog We Luv

Self Portrait Challenge is a community art project designed to encourage self-analysis and self-exploration, challenge personal boundaries, and free inhibitions through the creation of self portraits. The site was started in September 2005 by Kathreen Ricketson, a photo-media artist.
A theme for Self Portrait Challenge is posted each month, and participants are encouraged to interpret that theme in whatever ways they choose, posting a new portrait each week. Links to all self portraits are posted in the sidebar, where they remain until the following week when they are archived and new links are posted.
I discovered Self Portrait Challenge in early 2006 and participated for several months. Not only did I have a wonderful time creating my own portraits, but I also got to see some amazing artwork and meet some fascinating people.
I continue to be impressed by the originality displayed each week on Self Portrait Challenge. Participants draw from an assortment of artistic talents, including photography, graphic design, and illustration. Past themes have included body parts, pop art, online tools, red, and the theme that inspired this photo – glam.
If you’d like to show off your artwork or just browse through an amazing online gallery, head on over to Self Portrait Challenge. I think you’ll love this blog just as much as I do.
