ShanKri-la – A Blog Where Technology Meets Daily Life!

ShanKri-la is a wonderful blog and one of my personal “regular reads”. I have had my eye on doing an interview with the author and a review on this blog for some time now. ShanKri-La is authored and owned by Karthik Ramadoss, a very creative, intelligent and skillful blogger. I am pleased to announce that I had the exclusive opportunity to interview and review with Karthik Ramadoss and learn more about the blog and the person behind the control panel of this wonderful and informative blog.

This blog has such a simple approach to such a complex topic. As K mentioned once before in his 10 Questions submission, the channel of communications between techie geeks and the common blogger are very thin. Its one thing to be a blogger but its a complete different ballgame and language spoken in the teckie world of blogging. Many people simply don’t understand tech blogs because they are not technical in nature. This is where ShanKri-la breaks these languages barriers and paves a huge super highway or “open channel” for the common blogger to engage in communications with the techie bloggers. The concept is genuine and truly comes from the heart.

“I subscribe to a large number of technology blog and questioned myself before starting ShanKri-la. Why do I need another one? Technology blogs speak techie people. I wanted to bridge that gap so my not so techie friends can also see what it’s all about and how some of the nerdy things can actually make you efficient in getting things done on the internet.” , says Karthik.

There is total love and passion in K’s writing. His primary objective was to reach out to immediate family members and friends. But as we all know how blogging works, great blogs have a natural way of gaining more readers than just a handful of friends and family members. As is stands today, in just a short seven months, K has drove his blog up the chains and earned a Google PageRank of PR4 and has over 190+ Feedburner subscribers. In my opinion… with stats like that, something is being done right and its totally grabbed my attention. Karthik shares with me in email, “I really had my doubts when I started ShanKri-la. I started it because I realized my friends and family were missing out in the internet. The geeks (like me) seemed to be enjoying all the wonders and seemed to have all the fun by reading the techie blogs. I started writing to share my finds in the internet with my friends and family in a way that they can understand and use them in their daily life. Hence the slogan ‘where technology meets daily life’!” Little did K know or expect to see what the blog has grown to be today.

Joking aside, I really appreciate your review and I feel honored to be among such truly wonderful people like you, Tish, Kyle, Mark & Brown! If I hadn’t started blogging, I wouldn’t have met and made such wonderful friends.

I have learnt and applied lot of your experience from your blog and I continue to do so everyday.

I just feel like I have won a blogging Oscar!

  5. K’s blog is indeed a favorite destination of mine, too. Nice write-up, Garry, and great job K!

  6. Hey Mark,

Back in July a wonderful reference section was created. I forgot to mention that in the review, but this is a great example of the amount of time and energy that goes into the blog. And this is just a small chunk of the pie. The reference page itself is a PR3.

  7. Now that’s a great idea. In fact, I think that answers a question that’s been rolling around in my head about what to do with some of the content for a site that I took down in favor of my blog. A lot of information can be repurposed for such a thing.

  8. Garry.. in fact my reference section was inspired by Kyle! Gotta attribute credit where it’s due! :-)

I was pleasantly surprised when I found that it had gained a PR3 by itself. Thanks for mentioning that!

Mark.. thanks for the kind words! I would love to see your collection in a reference section. I am sure there are some hidden gems in there waiting to be found.

  9. Yes indeed… Kyle does sport a very nice reference section as well. :)

@ Mark, Man… I look forward to seeing it when you get it all pulled into a nice page. Drop me a comment and let know when you have it done! :)

  10. Garry.. I just wrote a thank you post at ShanKri-la and I have scheduled it to appear in the morning. Here is the post url..

  11. Garry – Great review of Karthik’s site!

I’m a big fan of the reviews K does and the Firefox extensions that are regularly featured.

Looks like I need to get my reference section back in my menu. I took it out due to lack of room, but I didn’t realize it was popular. :D
