10 Questions with Trey of Complete Geek
10 Questions with Trey of Complete Geek
1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
My blog, Complete Geek, is equal parts education and entertainment. I like to do how-to’s on the things I’ve learned and that I’m interested in. Not everything I post teaches you anything though. I sometimes just like to be really silly with my posts and get a laugh or two.
2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
How to Make a Stencil Using Gimp
3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
I pride myself on my easy to follow tutorials. People tend to think computers and programs are too complicated and get discouraged. I like to show them that it’s really not that difficult if you have the right teacher.
4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I’ve known about blogging first with my cousin. She started a blog for her own personal diary and I thought it was pretty silly. Look at me now!
5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
When people are just downright ugly in their comments. These are people that wouldn’t dare talk like that to someone face to face but since they can hide behind anonymity they become total jerks.
6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
Feedburner, definitely. It is good to be able to see which posts are the most popular so that I can better focus my content.
7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Tough one here. I really don’t tend to idolize anyone or anything. Probably one of the founding fathers like Benjamin Franklin. I would ask him what his vision for the future of our great country was and how he feels about the way it has turned out. I know that has nothing to do with my blog but I’m a patriot, what can I say?
8. How has blogging made you a better person?
It has really made me focus more on my fields of expertise and think really hard about what things I actually enjoy. You can’t have a successful blog if your try to write about something you don’t understand.
9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Content is key. Don’t write about things you don’t understand and don’t be discouraged if someone else has a blog about the topic you are interested in. Your point of view on a topic is what makes you unique, not the topic itself.
10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
xkcd. I think this site is brilliant. Who knew stick figures could teach you so much about life?
