Gummy the Lovesick Alien is the brainchild of BlogsWeLuv’s own Mike Wheeler. Gummy originally began as a series of single frame illustrations on Mike’s other blog, Ordinary Folk. The web comic was born in April 2007.

Gummy the Lovesick Alien follows the adventures of Gummy, a shy green alien who leaves his home planet and takes up residence on Earth. Gummy meets and falls in love with Bella, a sweet little pink alien who is just crazy about him. The two eventually adopt a bratty blue alien by the name of Brad. Brad is a master of manipulation, yet you can’t help but adore him.

I was introduced to Gummy a few months ago when Mike and I became friends. I was immediately captivated by the lovable characters, and I’ve been a regular reader ever since. Mike gets an incredible amount of joy in bringing Gummy and friends to life. His love for art is evident on each and every frame. It is that passion that keeps the comic exciting and fresh, prompting the reader to return each and every week for a new glimpse of Gummy. Though the comic’s primary audience is made of children and teenagers, readers of all ages are bound to enjoy Gummy’s charm.While preparing for this review, I went back to the Gummy archives and read the comic from the beginning. I also looked at the original Gummy illustrations. I developed an attachment to these characters all over again. I am particularly fond of the original illustrations, as they each capture one sweet moment from Gummy’s life.Gummy continues to grow in popularity. Fans can download banners and wallpapers. Gummy merchandise is available. There is a forum for fans to discuss the latest comic or anything else on their minds. Gummy even has his own MySpace page, and he wants to be your friend!
