Ten Questions with Matt of MattHuggins.com

1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
MattHuggins.com is a blog featuring content for Internet entrepreneurs, providing insight on making money online. Primary topics covered include blogging, SEO, advertising, marketing, and affiliate marketing. My blog started as a place for me to write about projects I work on in my efforts to make money online. Over time, I decided to include tips and articles that provide relevant information on business topics, such as making money blogging and networking for success.

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
I think my recent post entitled Converting Visitors to Readers with a Quality About Page is a post that reflects who I am. I like to try to offer my insights to others as I learn since I’m not alone in my blogging efforts and attempts to make money online.

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
One thing I do that sets me apart from other bloggers in the same niche is how open I am with information. I publicly publish how much money I make online in an effort to encourage others who are interested. (Keep an eye out, July’s stats are be coming soon!)

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I first starting blogging in college, when I was using a free LiveJournal account just to keep my friends updated on my life. I certainly didn’t know much about blogging at the time, and I wasn’t aware of many of the alternatives to LiveJournal; I merely knew that my friends used that blogging service, and I opted to use it as a result.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
I can’t stand simple spelling and grammar mistakes. I think the thing that makes me twitch most is when people mix up “lose” and “loose”.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
I consider SEO to be an important aspect of successful blogging that is overlooked by many bloggers. With that said, I think one of the most
functional plug-ins I’ve come across is the All in One SEO Pack.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
I honestly am not picky about who guest blogs for me, as long as the content is on-topic and benefits my readers. I think guest blogging is an important aspect of blogging in general, and I definitely encourage it!

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
I think blogging has helped my writing style to some degree and has given me more confidence in what I say.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
If you’re interested in traffic and ultimately monetizing, make sure you’re knowledgeable about the niche you’re planning to write about. Furthermore, it helps if the niche isn’t supersaturated. The topic of making money online, for example, is hard to get a foothold on considering how many successful blogs have already captured traffic in this topic area.

If you’re really interested in the topic area though, don’t be deterred if you are interested in sharing your knowledge! There will always be people interested in reading what you have to say, no matter what it may be.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
There are so many good blogs I follow, it’s really hard to pick just one. Instead of picking one of the big guys that everyone reads though, I think I’ll point out Courtney Tuttle’s blog. He publicly discusses his efforts to make money online, much like I strive to do in my own blog.
