10 Questions with Tish of The Kat House
Ten Questions with Tish of The Kat House
1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
The Kat House chronicles my life as a single, independent woman. I post about the things I know and love – theatre, minor league baseball, movies, music, and dogs. I sometimes display my geeky nature by writing about new blogging tools and services. There is a very romantic element to my blog as well. You can read all about my romantic hopes and dreams, as well as the heartaches I’ve encountered during the ongoing search for true love.
2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
100 Things About Me
3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
The one thing that my readers say more than anything else is that I am always upbeat and tend to find the humor in nearly anything. People see that because I truly enjoy the art of blogging. There are a lot of bloggers who are so focused on their page ranks that they miss out on all the fun. I’m not one of those bloggers.
4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I joined MySpace in November 2004. As I was checking out the features, I saw the term “blog” and had no idea what it meant. I did a Google search and read all about blogs. I have always had an interest in journaling, so I jumped right in! I moved from MySpace to a “real” blog in August 2005.
5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
There are some bloggers who use their blogs to publicly trash other people. I’ve been the victim of such behavior on more than one occasion. I think it is in such poor taste to humiliate another person in such a way. Remember that there are two sides to every story. Sometimes the “other side” is from a person who chooses to exercise a little respect by keeping her opinions to herself.
6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
Google Reader. There are a number of blogs that I read on a regular basis, and I’ve found that Google Reader makes my life so much easier. I am now able to read my favorite blogs in a fraction of the time it used to take!
7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
I love to laugh, and I love to make others laugh. Denis Leary’s humor and sense of candor have never failed to make me laugh, so I’d like to share them with the world – on my blog, of course!
8. How has blogging made you a better person?
Blogging has been therapeutic in that it has allowed me to express feelings that I might otherwise have kept bottled up inside. I’ve developed a newfound love of the written word. I’ve gained lots of support from the blogging community, and I’ve made some wonderful friends here. I am also preserving memories that might otherwise be forgotten with time. And last but certainly not least, I’ve found something that I’m truly good at, and I’ve developed a real sense of belonging.
9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
Write about the things you love. Posts that show passion keep readers coming back. Be honest. Remember the Golden Rule – don’t post things about other people that you wouldn’t want them posting about you. Develop new friendships by replying to your comments and visiting other blogs. And have fun! That’s what blogging is all about.
10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
[Geeks are Sexy] Technology News is definitely a favorite of mine. It was started by Kiltak and has expanded to include several other authors. When I first ran across a link for [GAS], I was intrigued by the name. Being the geek that I am, and being extremely attracted to other geeks, I couldn’t help but click. And I’ve been a regular reader ever since. [GAS] is a collection of posts that will appeal to the geek in you. You’ll find the latest technology news, movie and book reviews, tutorials, social tips, and some pretty darn funny You Tube videos.
