10 Questions with Jo of Life with Heathens
Ten Questions with Jo of Life With Heathens
1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
I guess you could say it’s the Shiny Object Syndrome Blog aka I have Adult ADD so don’t expect me to stay on topic! To be honest, I don’t even know what I’m going to blog about most days so if nothing else I keep people guessing. My blog is truly my life with heathens – my kids, my friends, my readers, and my family are all little heathens (lovably rotten) deep down.
2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
Facts About Moi – That just about covers ALL the bases.
3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
How many left-handed six foot tall former teenage mothers with MEN2a, two forms of cancer, missing organs, chronic pain, AND a wicked sense of humor do you know? Huh? Huh? Thought so! Just kidding.
4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I don’t remember how I discovered it but my first blog was started after my initial diagnosis. I just wanted to write down mine and the kids’ journeys through MEN2a, my cancer, their cancer, and what life was going to be like afterwards. Soon the rotten side of me needed an outlet too and thus Life With Heathens was born.
5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
The fact that the high school cliché crap has carried over to the internet. I will honestly say that I was shocked the first time I realized that even the internet has clichés and “mean girls” because I thought here at least people would act grown up. Online predators really tick me off too!
6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
MyBlogLog. I have met so many awesome people through MBL’s communities and I know that I probably never would have ran into them otherwise. Thanks to MBL I’ve made some really great friends that I have a feeling will be around for a very long time. You could take all my blog awards and even my expandable menus before I’d let you take MyBlogLog! I know, I’m an addict but Lindsey Lohan took my spot at Promises Rehab so no 12 steps for me. Something about her addiction being more serious than mine. Ha, goes to prove that they have never blogged!
7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
I agree with Barry in that I’m not big on guest bloggers. It’s my blog and while there are many bloggers I love and relate to, Life With Heathens is my home. Luckily most of my readers already know about my health issues so if I have to miss blogging for a bit I always know they will be there when I get back. Don’t get me wrong, if Johnny Depp wanted to take over my blog for a day or two I definitely wouldn’t kick him out of my be…blog. *snicker*
8. How has blogging made you a better person?
I have met so many fantastic people through blogging that it is unreal! Seeing others’ struggles in life and the things they’ve made it through reminds me that even with cancer and missing a few organs I am still a very very lucky person. The other bloggers keep me humble and that’s a good thing because if my head were to swell it’s a long way down for me when I fall over! Blogging has taught me to be more open-minded and shown me that humanity still has some hope.
9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
I guess my tips would be to always be honest because people can tell when you’re a total fake. Don’t be afraid to post about or stand up for what you believe in even if nobody else agrees with you. Also, never write something in anger that you may regret later because Google will cache that shiz faster than you can hit delete!
10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Wow, this is hard because there are so many great blogs. Hmmm. I guess I would have to choose Hope For Holly This woman is fighting for her life and the strength of not only her but her husband as well is very humbling and really puts life into perspective. This woman has been through hell since her cancer diagnosis but yet she fights and is just amazing.

Hey… final push now, just over four hours to go, keep it up!
What a brave girl! I don’t think there is girl alive who would kick Johnny Depp out of her blog! :D
I love her blog and try to stop by and read it as much as I can. She is funny, she is brave and she will make you laugh!
Peace!
I’m so glad I checked here today so I got to see this. :) I really enjoyed your questions and want to thank you for letting me be included.
Judy- Thank you for the wonderful compliments. :)
Dannielle- Yep, my be…. blog is always open to Mr Depp. LOL.
I met Jo while Blogroll surfing a little while back and we have become blogging buds, despite the fact that we are political opposites. She isn’t lying about being honest. She’ll tell it like she sees it! I know I check her blog pretty much everyday that I am online. Go Jo!
