10 Questions with Bob of Bobbarama

Ten Questions with Bob of bobbarama

Bobbarama1. Describe your blog in five sentences or less.
It’s all about having fun — sometimes in unexpected ways. Ever seen anyone else interview a pelican? Or wonder aloud whether he should invest in a bathroom perimeter laser sentry system so he can zap the gnats flitting up little stoned fairies out of his bathroom sink with a laser beam triggered by motion sensor detectors? (Well, hey, beats blowtorching the little bastids with a cigarette lighter and a can of aerosol.) ‘Nuf said. (smile)

2. Link us to one post from your blog that best defines who you are.
I tend to look at life from a slightly different perspective … like if I was hanging upside down from a lamp post reading a book rightside up or something. So, OK … try this one.

Steaking out my favorite booth

3. What sets you apart from other bloggers?
My Fictionary … a regular feature where I redefine words after adding or subtracting just one letter. Some examples:

Abnominal muscles: The flabby, untoned midsection of someone who does not work out regularly.

Catmosphere: The stench in the air near a litter box that has gone uncleaned too long.

Dissatisfiction: A book that does not live up to expectations, glowing reviews and advance hype.

4. When and how did you first discover blogging?
I was goofing around a bit with Live Journal when I happened to stumble onto dooce. That’s when the light went on. “Ah, ha!! A bigger stage!! And I can get rich and retire!” Still working on the second half of the equation.

5. What is your biggest pet peeve related to blogging or the internet?
Idjits … people who hide behind their online anonymity to attack, ridicule or hurt people.

6. Name one plugin, blogging widget, or service that you can’t live without.
Uh, that would be the one I’m using now … the plug-in to the wall for my fan. It’s sooooo hot today outside.

7. If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to write a guest post for your blog, who would it be and why?
Jerry Seinfeld. Just because I like his humorous take on life.

8. How has blogging made you a better person?
I’ve learned how to take life less seriously and to see the humor in things I didn’t see before. More importantly, though, I’ve met a lot of nice people in here and some of that can’t help but rub off.

9. What are your tips for becoming a better blogger?
You can’t write well if you don’t read a lot. And in here it’s all about how you connect to people and their lives with the way you write … the way you choose your words. So, yeah, read. Everything … books, magazines, cereal boxes … anything and everything. Read, read, read. Then write, write, write. You’ll get better faster if you read a lot.

10. Name one great blog that you read on a regular basis. What makes it unique?
Just a Girl in Short Shorts Talking About Whatever

You never ever — ever! — know what you’re going to read when you get there. It’s unpredictable, sarcastic, witty and occasionally challenging. Did I mention it’s also a very sexy blog? (smile) It’s just a really great, fun read all the time.
